Why these decisions are harder than they look
Nothing about this is a single decision. Driving, the house, money, medication, who is in charge — each one recurs, each one moves, and each one is decided by people who are tired and who love the same person differently.
Sustained stress narrows the window a decision gets judged against. A bad fortnight starts to look like the new normal, and a choice about residence gets made against the fortnight rather than the arc. The reverse is just as common: a good week is taken as proof that nothing needs to change.
And the argument is rarely about the thing being argued about. Grief that has nowhere else to go attaches itself to the nearest decision, which is how a family ends up fighting about a care home when the subject is actually loss.
