Generative models are built to predict what comes next. Given pressure and incomplete information, that is exactly the wrong instinct — it produces a fluent, confident answer that accelerates whatever assumption you brought to it.
The mechanism underneath
Prediction is not judgment
A generative model answers the question it was asked, in the form the question implies. It has no way of noticing that the question was wrong, that the person asking is exhausted, or that the confident answer will be acted on by someone who has stopped examining their own reasoning.
Under pressure that becomes compounding. Fluency reads as authority. The faster and more articulate the answer, the less likely anyone is to interrogate it — and the assumptions that went in come back out with the polish of a conclusion.
The failure is not that the model is wrong. Often it is right. The failure is that the human stopped deciding, and nobody noticed until the consequence arrived.
